As you know, we love to re-create iconic pieces. It was actually the grandson of the owners of Mod Shoes and 66 who suggested, “Why not recreate the Kurt top from the Smells Like Teen Spirit video? It fits perfectly with what you already do.” We think he was spot on, and that’s why you can see it here in our “Icon Series”.
Kurt got his original top from a vintage shop, he was a big fan of “thrifting”, and we believe his was an authentic ’60s piece. It certainly has the look of surf style or early ’70s American fashion, which might explain why he was drawn to it. In the video, it plays into the satirical tone, poking fun at MTV and the concept of the ‘American Dream.’ Either way, it’s an iconic top.
This version is a cotton-acrylic blend, designed to be both comfortable to wear and durable, so it keeps it’s shape.
The styling of this top is incredibly versatile. It pairs perfectly with jeans in classic blue, white, or any other colour, and looks great with traditional desert boots. The possibilities are endless! A pair of our Mateos or Woodys would complement it perfectly.
Sizing:
These tops run slightly loose, so we recommend sizing down, depending on how you would like it to fit. For reference, I typically wear XL in 95% of our clothing, but in this top, I’d wear a Large, especially without layering underneath.
